Madeline Soto, whose body was found last week after her disappearance, had been sexually abused for nearly 2 years by her mother’s boyfriend

In January 2019, four-year-old Madeline disappeared from her home in Houston, Texas. Her mother, Gabriella Soto, initially told police that Madeline had been kidnapped from her home.

But police quickly began to suspect that something else had happened. They noticed inconsistencies in Gabriella’s story, and she eventually admitted that Madeline had died in an accident and that she had hidden her body. She led police to Madeline’s remains, and she was charged with murder.

Police say that Gabriella had a history of being neglectful and abusive towards her children. Madeline’s two older siblings were taken into protective custody and placed in foster care.

The case was heartbreaking for the community, and many people were left wondering how such a tragedy could have occurred. Gabriella’s trial is still ongoing, and she faces life in prison if convicted.
